The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering started in SNGIST under M G university in the year 2010 and affiliated under KTU in the year 2015. The department currently offers a B. Tech. programme in Electronics & Communication Engineering with an intake of 60 students. The objective of the course is to impart all the concepts and ideas in the field of electronics and communication engineering. The curriculum includes both the theoretical and practical aspects in the field of electronics engineering which imparts the practical aspects to the students and also provides students with adequate background for pursuing a career in the industry or for further higher studies in the discipline and also make them quality engineers to the society. The department has dedicated and well experienced faculties with strong commitment to the students and awareness in the latest developments in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The Department used to conduct Faculty development programmes and workshops on the topics of current technology. The department also provides guidance for the innovative projects selected by the students. The department also give permission to do projects in various government and research organizations. The department is well equipped with full fledged laboratories. LABORATORIES Electronic Circuits lab: The main aim of the lab is to expose the student with practical awareness for the components like diode, transistor (BJT & FET), and study its characteristics. Through this lab the students will get a thorough understanding of various applications of electronic components. The lab is equipped with cathode ray oscilloscopes, function generators and dual power supplies. Analog Communication lab: The main objective of this lab is to gain the practical hands on experience by exposing the students to various modulation and demodulations techniques. The students will have an understanding of the concepts involved in transmission and reception of the signals in communication. The lab is equipped with digital storage oscilloscopes, function generators and dual power supplies. Signal Processing Lab: The main objective of this lab is to gain the practical hands on experience by exposing the students to various digital signal processing activities. The students will understand the concepts of DSP processors and their architecture. The digital signal processing lab will give a thorough understanding of various DSP processors and various DSP instructions. The various signal processing operations such as linear convolutions and circular convolution and the design of various filters are studied and the simulated outputs are seen. The lab is equipped with DSP and FPGA kits and the software used are MATLAB, Scilab, Proteus and Xilinx. Digital Electronics lab: To impart the concepts of digital electronics practically and train students with all the equipments which will help in improving the basic knowledge in Digital Electronics. This lab is equipped with Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Digital IC trainer kits, multiple power supplies etc. Power Electronics & Instrumentation Lab: The main objective of this lab is to gain the practical hands on experience by exposing the students to various power electronics circuits. It also help the students to understand the design concepts of digital instruments and transducers. ACHIEVEMENTS The department has consistently achieved excellent results in the university examinations and also has a very good placement record. The students of the department were placed in the companies like UST Global, Core Integra, Byju’s, Eben Technologies, Tata Elxsi, Consist Technologies, Itech solutions and systems etc. Many of the students doing higher studies in abroad (Canada) and other reputed colleges. The students of the department participated in the competitions like state level academic project exhibition conducted by SITTTR, Techathlon by ICT Academy etc. Students are given exposure to industries by industrial visits and industrial training session. Students undertake training in industries like BSNL, Keltron, CIAL, HMT, CIFNET, ITI, CAMPCO, Apollo Tyres, Pantech, CIFT etc. The students are encouraged to do their final year project at various central public research organizations and industries. As part of the faculty development programme, the staff members are encouraged to attend seminars and workshops in the different areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Many value added programs like conferences, workshops, technical quizzes, project exhibitions, design contests, paper presentations, personality development courses etc are conducted by the department. VISION OF ECE DEPARTMENT Enable students to develop skills to solve complex technological problems of current times by systematically doing research and equip the students with strong foundation in the field of electronics.
