The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering started in SNGIST under   M G university in the year 2010 and affiliated under KTU in the year 2015. The department currently offers a B. Tech. programme in Electronics & Communication Engineering with an intake of 60 students. The objective of the course is to impart all the concepts and ideas in the field of electronics and communication engineering. The curriculum includes both the theoretical and practical aspects in the field of electronics engineering which imparts the practical aspects to the students and also provides students with adequate background for pursuing a career in the industry or for further higher studies in the discipline and also make them quality engineers to the society. The department has dedicated and well experienced faculties with strong commitment to the students and awareness in the latest developments in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The Department used to conduct Faculty development programmes and workshops on the topics of current technology. The department also provides guidance for the innovative projects selected by the students. The department also give permission to do projects in various government and research organizations. The department is well equipped with full fledged laboratories. LABORATORIES Electronic Circuits lab:  The main aim of the lab is to expose the student with practical awareness for the components like diode, transistor (BJT & FET), and study its characteristics. Through this lab the students will get  a thorough understanding of various applications of electronic components. The lab is equipped with cathode ray oscilloscopes, function generators and dual power supplies. Analog Communication lab: The main objective of this lab is to gain the practical hands on experience by exposing the students to various modulation and demodulations techniques. The students will have an understanding of the concepts involved in transmission and reception of the signals in communication. The lab is equipped with digital storage oscilloscopes, function generators and dual power supplies. Signal Processing Lab: The main objective of this lab is to gain the practical hands on experience by exposing the students to various digital signal processing activities. The students will understand the concepts of DSP processors and their architecture. The digital signal processing lab will give a thorough understanding of various DSP processors and various DSP instructions. The various signal processing operations such as linear convolutions and circular convolution and the design of various filters are studied and the simulated outputs are seen. The lab is equipped with DSP and FPGA kits and the software used are MATLAB, Scilab, Proteus and Xilinx. Digital Electronics lab: To impart the concepts of digital electronics practically and train students with all the equipments which will help in improving the basic knowledge in Digital Electronics. This lab is equipped with Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Digital IC trainer kits, multiple power supplies etc. Power Electronics & Instrumentation Lab: The main objective of this lab is to gain the practical hands on experience by exposing the students to various power electronics circuits. It also help the students to understand the design concepts of digital instruments and transducers. ACHIEVEMENTS The department has consistently achieved excellent results in the university examinations and also has a very good placement record. The students of the department were placed in the companies like UST Global, Core Integra, Byju’s, Eben Technologies, Tata Elxsi, Consist Technologies, Itech solutions and systems etc. Many of the students doing higher studies in abroad (Canada) and other reputed colleges. The students of the department participated in the competitions like state level academic project exhibition conducted by SITTTR, Techathlon by ICT Academy etc. Students are given exposure to industries by industrial visits and industrial training session. Students undertake training in industries like BSNL, Keltron, CIAL, HMT, CIFNET, ITI, CAMPCO, Apollo Tyres, Pantech, CIFT etc. The students are encouraged to do their final year project at various central public research organizations and industries. As part of the faculty development programme, the staff members are encouraged to attend seminars and workshops in the different areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Many value added programs like conferences, workshops, technical quizzes, project exhibitions, design contests, paper presentations, personality development courses etc are conducted by the department. VISION OF ECE DEPARTMENT Enable students to develop skills to solve complex technological problems of current times by systematically doing research and equip the students with strong foundation in the field of electronics. MISSION OF ECE DEPARTMENT The vision of Electronics & Communication Engineering Department is to coach the students to have in depth knowledge of the subjects in the field of Electronics, Communication and Technology and help the students to meet present day challenges and global standards.

Industrial visits: 

  • S7 ECE Students gone for one day visit at CIAL CNS (Communication Navigation    Surveillance) Division on 2nd They got an opportunity to discuss the various Surveillance systems used in air traffic control with George D’silva, General Manager, CNS.
  • S7 ECE Students undergone 3 days industrial training at CIAL CNS (Communication Navigation Surveillance) Division.
  • S7 ECE Students had visited IHRD, Trivandrum as a part of industrial exposure.
  • S5 students had attended a five day industrial training at Keltron Controls Division, Aroor.
  • As a part of industrial academia interface 7 students of S7 ECE gone for one day visit at Bitsforge Technologies Pvt Ltd.
  • S6 ECE students visited Askar Microns Pvt Ltd, CNC machine manufacturing company and L&T, a manufacturing company of Metering & Protection Systems (MPS) in Electrical and Electronics Division (EBG) at Mysore.
  • As a part of industrial academia interface students of S4 ECE gone for industrial visit at ITI, Palakkad.

 

   Electronics Association Activities: 

  • Under the Association of Electronics and Communication Engineering “ETINCELLE” Students of S7 ECE got an opportunity to attend a seminar on “Fibre Optics”. The session was handled by Mr. Jeffrey Simon, FISAT.
  • Conducted a seminar on Networking and IOT.
  • Conducted a seminar on Raspberry pi which was conducted by Silica Tech.
  • Organized Two day faculty development programme on ‘Raspberry Pi with Open C V’ by Department of Electronics and Communication.
  • S6 ECE Students attended a 2 day workshop on “PCB DESIGNING” conducted by Silica Tech.
  • As a part of ‘ETINCELLE’ ECE Department celebrated association day on 22nd April 2017. Dr T V Sankar, Director of Research, KUFOS inaugurated the function and delivered a talk on “Effectiveness of Research Activities in Academic and Professional Areas”.

  • One of the project batch (S8 ECE) did their main project at IHRD, Trivandram.
  • One of the project batch (S8 ECE) did their main project for CIAL, They designed and developed Tracking system for CIAL.
  • Shyam Babu, S4 ECE had participated in the state level academic project exhibition & competition held at Govt: Polytechnic College, Perumbavoor conducted by Department of technical education, State Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research.
  • A . R . Rahul, S4 ECE had participated in the state level academic project exhibition & competition held at Govt: Polytechnic College, Perumbavoor conducted by Department of technical education, State Institute Of Technical Teachers Training & Research.
  • Muhammed Irfan K.K, S4 ECE had participated in SPIKE 17 Volleyball tournament as a part of National Level Arts & Cultural Fest Sanskriti 2017 held at M A College Of Engineering, Kothamangalam.

  • Prof. Anoob C S of ECE Dept. attended a 3 day workshop on Electronic automation workshop which was conducted by Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Kodakara.
  • Prof. Sumesh A S of ECE Dept. attended a one week faculty development programme on VLSI DESIGN – Reasearch perspective which was organized by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, College of Engineering Perumon.

  • Anoob C S, Assistant Professor of ECE Dept published a paper on Analysis of utility based pattern mining using neural network in the journal: EPRA International journal of research and development.
